Every sailor loves the salty sea, and any good chef will tell you that just a pinch of salt makes a world of difference in a dish, but did you know that every bartender will also tell you that the same can be said for cocktails?

A single drop of saline can level up the flavor profile of a drink, far beyond just the salt you may think of on the rim of drinks like a margarita, though the concept of the effect as it melts into the cocktail is similar.

This is why vodka and caviar pair so well together!

In a cocktail, even when you can’t taste it, salt will help to block bitterness and turn up the other flavors. It also helps to intensify sweetness, and aroma. Plus, the presence of salt in a cocktail will increase saliva in the mouth, making the drink feel slightly richer and more luxurious. It is truly a hidden gem.

If you choose to experiment in your cocktails at home, use a dropper to add salt one drop at a time. A little goes a long way!
